Beginners Class on a Thursday

There will be a beginners class running on Thursdays 5.30-6.15pm in Bitterne Triangle from April 7th. Cost £20 for 4 weeks.

This class will be suitable if you have had no previous experience or if you have attended one of my beginner courses.

Limited spaces as these classes are kept small so each individual can get one to one instructor help with ensuring they are doing the exercises safely and effectively.

Please contact me if you would like to come along.

Pilates with Babes is going well

Post Natal Pilates for mum and babies has now been running for 5 weeks. I’m loving these classes, its a bit loud, at times a bit chaotic, a bit messy but lots of fun and it means mums get a chance to do some exercise without needing to worry about a babysitter. James is there to help with babies and has been know to be surrounded by a sea of car seats, rocking them one after another! Today he was playing with a toddler with holding another babe and rocking a car seat…and they say men can’t multi-task!

So if you are having a baby or have recently had one and fancy it, please do get in touch. Its also a great place to meet mums and get some tips.

As for me, I teach the class with my baby in a sling on my front, it certainly makes Pilates a lot harder to do and is something I hadn’t expected to be doing.

Pilates with Balls

Tonight I subjected the mixed ability class to an introduction to the pilates ball/overball. We had great fun using the ball to enhance and correct alignment in a number of the exercises we usually do. I think everyone was quite surprised at how such a small piece of equipment makes such a difference to how an exercise feels and to its level of difficulty.  Personally I found it a lot harder using the ball and my hip flexor especially are already feeling the difference! Much stretching was needed at the end but it was a thoroughly enjoyable class and I love the fact that everyone rose to the challenge.

Refreshment and Relaxation

Pilates for me is not all about the exercise and toning aspect, although thats all good. One of the things I love about it is it’s so different to the other exercise I do (I teach classes such as Step Aerobics, Aerobics, Spin and I run), its challenging and varied so keep me interested but also it relaxes me. I don’t just get that feel good feeling that exercise gives, I get the added bonus of feeling refreshed and revitalised, its like a good tonic for me.  We all needs times in our week when we have “me” time and exercise can be a great way to build that in. My one to one pilates sessions provide that for me and can provide that for you as well!

Post Natal Pilates has started!

Today saw the launch of post-natal classes. 6 mums including myself turned up armed with babies, toys and a desire to tone up and strengthen those core muscles. The babies were all extremely good and let mummies exercise, sometimes with a little bit of help! It was lovely to see mums kissing their babies in between press ups and cuddling babies as they did seated exercises. As for me, my baby ended up in a sling asleep on me. So exercises and babies can go together, just with a bit of planning, perserverance and not that much peace!

If you want to join us for a class please let me know.

Pilates with bands

So tonight in our pilates class we used some resistance bands which caused some amusement with them being referred to as making noises like “knicker elastic” at one stage! It certainly gave us a good upper body workout whilst strengthening the core muscles as well. The masterclass from last week on press ups has certainly paid off with people really focusing on doing their press ups correctly and as a result finding it much harder 🙂 People who say Pilates is easy aren’t doing it correctly!

Stretching with the bands led to a much better stretch, something we may start to incorporate more often to help increase flexibility.

First Class of the New Year

Last night saw the return of Pilates to Bitterne Triangle, for 2011.  It was lovely to see eager faces and people keen to start the New Year in a healthy way.

Despite the rain and the cold, some faithful regular attendees came along and it was nice to welcome a new face.

Everyone left with spirits high and bodies rejuvenated.

This year, in our Monday CLasses, we shall be working towards adding in some more challenging exercises, such as, the “Tick Tock” and “The Leg Pull”.

If you would like to join us, we are always happy to meet new faces and the next Beginners’ Course, starts on 1st February.

Ante Natal/Post Natal Pilates

I’m going to be running some ante natal/post natal Pilates sessions on Tuesdays 2.30-3.30pm at St Denys Church Centre. Small babies are welcome, we shall be placing them next to mums so they can engage in the class too. The class is an hour but this allows for a little time of mums needing to comfort babies so we won’t all get an hour of Pilates done! There will be someone on hand to help with babies to give mums a break too so mums can get some Pilates done even if babies need cuddles 🙂

I will also have space in my Monday evening class at 5.30pm for pregnant mums or post-natal ladies.

Please contact me to book a space.
