Bank Holiday and I’m missing Pilates.

So the past 2 weeks has had rather a lot of bank holidays leading to lots of people being away and lots of cancelled classes. Also a bout of sickness meant both my post natal pilates class was cancelled and one of my regular one to one clients had to cancel her session. It’s therefore been a very odd week with no pilates being taught in my little studio. However it has meant I’ve had more of a chance to do Pilates myself as well as some dance practise, which has been just so enjoyable. Personally I find Pilates refreshes me, strengthens me and challenges me yet leaves me more relaxed and ready to face the world than when I started. It’s a great way to exercise, listen to some great music and unwind all at the same time. Dancing is a little more energetic if you are me and is something I do as part of worship. It helps me express what is inside of me. Having said that I love any form of dancing and movement.Thinking about movement, Saturday morning saw my first return to an aerobics class (by that I mean one not taught by myself!).  Usually I can’t leave the baby on a weekend but had a window of opportunity….it gave me great pleasure to find I can still more than keep up with a fast paced class taught by a good instructor, my fitness levels seem to be back up to their normal levels. I’ve also managed to fit in 2 runs, 1 with the baby in her pram, our first run together…she slept, I ran, it was all good. The second a slightly faster paced version minus pram and baby on Good Friday. It was lovely running in the early morning, watching all the other runners out in the park and  enjoying the beauty of the trees and river.

So what have you been up to over the bank holidays?

Spaces available in Post-Natal Pilates class

Due to a couple of mums moving on and moving away I now have a couple of spaces available on the post-natal class. This is a fun-filled fantastic class for mums who are looking to tone up and strengthen their core muscles after having babies. Pilates helped me tremendously both during my pregnancy and post-birth, it meant my core strength returned very quickly helping with all the lifting and fun of early motherhood 🙂

Babies come along to this class too, best suited to non-crawlers. We have our very own “Daddy daycare” to help look after babies, he does a fantastic job and being a Daddy is experienced at nappy changing, feeding, playing, singing, rocking and carrying babies! He has been seen lining up and rocking 4 car seats one after the other keeping all the babes asleep.

Let me know if you would like to try it out.

New Class Idea

So as well as Pilates I also teach/can teach aerobics, step aerobics, body conditioning and toning, spin and circuits. My favourite classes are Step and conditioning classes. Currently I teach Step twice a week, however thats going to be reduced to once a week due to it being holiday time. Now I always miss that second class when its not there, as not only do I enjoy teaching it, I also enjoy doing it! Which got me thinking, maybe I could put on a similar class in that time slot to fill the gap. Now my Pilates studio is tiny so if I ran it at home I could only take a handful of people 5-6 I think, but if there was enough demand I know a couple of decent halls to hire. Hmmm.

So here’s the question…anyone interested in a class on a Thursday and what type of class? I don’t currently have Steps (apart from one for me), but some of you may have them lying around at home or I could maybe try to borrow a couple. Alternatively I could run a body conditioning class using low impact aerobics moves, resistance bands and free weights. Anyone up for it?

First week in the new studio

So after finally taking the plunge and converting our front room to a little Pilates studio its been really exciting to have my first classes in there. The room itself only takes 6 people plus me, but that’s actually a lovely sized class so everyone gets help and advice from me and I can see what everyone is up to….so no more hiding in the back row! Its nice and quiet compared to the place we had been using plus has the added bonus of all equipment being on hand 🙂

Monday night the mixed ability class went well, my husband asked if we even did any pilates as all he could hear was laughter! I hasten to say that this class is a fun filled one and they were all working hard just giving me plenty of back chat with it!

Tuesday saw the post natal class with mums in the pilates studio and babes in the lounge with James. It was lovely to have so much space for the babes to roll about it and hear them gurgling whilst mummies had more time to get on and do some pilates in peace. Plus we had the added bonus of a cuppa afterwards.

This morning I had some one to one Pilates clients and tonight its a beginners class. So a pretty full Pilates week, but I’ve even managed to fit in my own personal Pilates as well which has been so needed and enjoyed.

Pilates Studio

I now have my very own little Pilates studio! When I say little it is indeed little, in that I can only take 6 in a class and there’s not much room for me, which of course means everyone else has to work extra hard as I’ll be watching and correcting more. Also there will be more chance to use equipment and for posture analysis in these smaller classes.

So I will be teaching one to one Pilates from the studio and some classes will move to my studio too. Look forward to seeing you there soon.
