What others think about Post Natal Pilates.

Below is a blogged post from a lovely mummy who attends Post natal Pilates…. Lucy you are awesome.

Since February I have been attending post natal pilates classes with this lovely lady.

There are 3 of us who regularly attend the classes, although this is about to increase to 7.We bring our babies with us and we can pop in and out of the class as and when our babies need a feed or a change. Sometime the babies come into the studio with us, and sometimes Priya’s husband becomes “Daddy day-care” and looks after them.

While Pilates alone won’t help me lose weight (only aerobic exercise and a healthy diet will do that) it does tone muscles. Pilates focuses on your core muscles, and I’ve found over time that my posture has really improved. I’m now standing taller and straighter. It’s also helping me to become aware of my body, posture and core muscles when I’m doing my other exercises, especially when I go for a run.
The other thing I love, is how invigorated and refreshed I feel afterwards. It really spurs me on and motivates me to exercise more.

But if I’m honest, what I love the most about these classes is the good company. As we are all mummies with similar aged babies, it’s great to exchange stories and share handy hints and tips while we work on toning up our post pregnancy tums!

Pilates rejuvenated me today

So having a 6 month old baby can be tiring.. as gorgeous and well behaved as she is there are times where the sleep deprivation and constant nature of a baby can take it’s toll and leave you feeling rather knackered. After a few nights of 4 hours or less sleep I was feeling particularly weary today and baby brain was setting in fast.

It was time for post natal pilates, a small class today but my goodness was it a good one! Working with people over time means you get to know their personalities, their bodies, their abilities and their attitude to exercise. So today I was able to push the class hard and push myself as well. As the instructor I don’t expect to be able to do that much of a class, but sometimes it just works that I can. This was one of those days, in fact its been one of those weeks! We focused on core strength and the triceps plus the outer thigh (abductors). By the end of the class I felt totally refreshed and like a new woman.

An extra bonus today was the babies were stars and happily played with James for the entire session! Yay babies 🙂

Prams, Pushing and Pilates.

So having a baby can mean its harder to fit in time to exercise….however it’s usually possible to multi-task and exercise with the baby. Today myself and baby went for a buggy run, we managed 6km, running slightly slower than my usual pace but I worked out that this was probably due to the fact I wasn’t able to use my arms to help propel myself forward as I had to push the buggy. It was certainly harder work as well, which made it all the more of a challenge for  me and appealed to my competitive streak! Baby enjoyed it immensely sleeping the whole time. At the end of my run I used the buggy as an aid and squeezed in some lunges, squats and then laying on the grass enjoyed a little bit of pilates! I’m not sure what all the passers by thought but I certainly enjoyed exercising in the outdoors and got a great workout. I hope you’ve managed to squeeze in your exercise today….

Spaces available in Post-Natal Pilates class

Due to a couple of mums moving on and moving away I now have a couple of spaces available on the post-natal class. This is a fun-filled fantastic class for mums who are looking to tone up and strengthen their core muscles after having babies. Pilates helped me tremendously both during my pregnancy and post-birth, it meant my core strength returned very quickly helping with all the lifting and fun of early motherhood 🙂

Babies come along to this class too, best suited to non-crawlers. We have our very own “Daddy daycare” to help look after babies, he does a fantastic job and being a Daddy is experienced at nappy changing, feeding, playing, singing, rocking and carrying babies! He has been seen lining up and rocking 4 car seats one after the other keeping all the babes asleep.

Let me know if you would like to try it out.

Pilates with Babes is going well

Post Natal Pilates for mum and babies has now been running for 5 weeks. I’m loving these classes, its a bit loud, at times a bit chaotic, a bit messy but lots of fun and it means mums get a chance to do some exercise without needing to worry about a babysitter. James is there to help with babies and has been know to be surrounded by a sea of car seats, rocking them one after another! Today he was playing with a toddler with holding another babe and rocking a car seat…and they say men can’t multi-task!

So if you are having a baby or have recently had one and fancy it, please do get in touch. Its also a great place to meet mums and get some tips.

As for me, I teach the class with my baby in a sling on my front, it certainly makes Pilates a lot harder to do and is something I hadn’t expected to be doing.

Post Natal Pilates has started!

Today saw the launch of post-natal classes. 6 mums including myself turned up armed with babies, toys and a desire to tone up and strengthen those core muscles. The babies were all extremely good and let mummies exercise, sometimes with a little bit of help! It was lovely to see mums kissing their babies in between press ups and cuddling babies as they did seated exercises. As for me, my baby ended up in a sling asleep on me. So exercises and babies can go together, just with a bit of planning, perserverance and not that much peace!

If you want to join us for a class please let me know.

Ante Natal/Post Natal Pilates

I’m going to be running some ante natal/post natal Pilates sessions on Tuesdays 2.30-3.30pm at St Denys Church Centre. Small babies are welcome, we shall be placing them next to mums so they can engage in the class too. The class is an hour but this allows for a little time of mums needing to comfort babies so we won’t all get an hour of Pilates done! There will be someone on hand to help with babies to give mums a break too so mums can get some Pilates done even if babies need cuddles 🙂

I will also have space in my Monday evening class at 5.30pm for pregnant mums or post-natal ladies.

Please contact me to book a space.
