New Class Idea

So as well as Pilates I also teach/can teach aerobics, step aerobics, body conditioning and toning, spin and circuits. My favourite classes are Step and conditioning classes. Currently I teach Step twice a week, however thats going to be reduced to once a week due to it being holiday time. Now I always miss that second class when its not there, as not only do I enjoy teaching it, I also enjoy doing it! Which got me thinking, maybe I could put on a similar class in that time slot to fill the gap. Now my Pilates studio is tiny so if I ran it at home I could only take a handful of people 5-6 I think, but if there was enough demand I know a couple of decent halls to hire. Hmmm.

So here’s the question…anyone interested in a class on a Thursday and what type of class? I don’t currently have Steps (apart from one for me), but some of you may have them lying around at home or I could maybe try to borrow a couple. Alternatively I could run a body conditioning class using low impact aerobics moves, resistance bands and free weights. Anyone up for it?

First week in the new studio

So after finally taking the plunge and converting our front room to a little Pilates studio its been really exciting to have my first classes in there. The room itself only takes 6 people plus me, but that’s actually a lovely sized class so everyone gets help and advice from me and I can see what everyone is up to….so no more hiding in the back row! Its nice and quiet compared to the place we had been using plus has the added bonus of all equipment being on hand 🙂

Monday night the mixed ability class went well, my husband asked if we even did any pilates as all he could hear was laughter! I hasten to say that this class is a fun filled one and they were all working hard just giving me plenty of back chat with it!

Tuesday saw the post natal class with mums in the pilates studio and babes in the lounge with James. It was lovely to have so much space for the babes to roll about it and hear them gurgling whilst mummies had more time to get on and do some pilates in peace. Plus we had the added bonus of a cuppa afterwards.

This morning I had some one to one Pilates clients and tonight its a beginners class. So a pretty full Pilates week, but I’ve even managed to fit in my own personal Pilates as well which has been so needed and enjoyed.

Pilates Studio

I now have my very own little Pilates studio! When I say little it is indeed little, in that I can only take 6 in a class and there’s not much room for me, which of course means everyone else has to work extra hard as I’ll be watching and correcting more. Also there will be more chance to use equipment and for posture analysis in these smaller classes.

So I will be teaching one to one Pilates from the studio and some classes will move to my studio too. Look forward to seeing you there soon.

Beginners Class on a Thursday

There will be a beginners class running on Thursdays 5.30-6.15pm in Bitterne Triangle from April 7th. Cost £20 for 4 weeks.

This class will be suitable if you have had no previous experience or if you have attended one of my beginner courses.

Limited spaces as these classes are kept small so each individual can get one to one instructor help with ensuring they are doing the exercises safely and effectively.

Please contact me if you would like to come along.

Pilates with Babes is going well

Post Natal Pilates for mum and babies has now been running for 5 weeks. I’m loving these classes, its a bit loud, at times a bit chaotic, a bit messy but lots of fun and it means mums get a chance to do some exercise without needing to worry about a babysitter. James is there to help with babies and has been know to be surrounded by a sea of car seats, rocking them one after another! Today he was playing with a toddler with holding another babe and rocking a car seat…and they say men can’t multi-task!

So if you are having a baby or have recently had one and fancy it, please do get in touch. Its also a great place to meet mums and get some tips.

As for me, I teach the class with my baby in a sling on my front, it certainly makes Pilates a lot harder to do and is something I hadn’t expected to be doing.

Pilates with Balls

Tonight I subjected the mixed ability class to an introduction to the pilates ball/overball. We had great fun using the ball to enhance and correct alignment in a number of the exercises we usually do. I think everyone was quite surprised at how such a small piece of equipment makes such a difference to how an exercise feels and to its level of difficulty.  Personally I found it a lot harder using the ball and my hip flexor especially are already feeling the difference! Much stretching was needed at the end but it was a thoroughly enjoyable class and I love the fact that everyone rose to the challenge.

Refreshment and Relaxation

Pilates for me is not all about the exercise and toning aspect, although thats all good. One of the things I love about it is it’s so different to the other exercise I do (I teach classes such as Step Aerobics, Aerobics, Spin and I run), its challenging and varied so keep me interested but also it relaxes me. I don’t just get that feel good feeling that exercise gives, I get the added bonus of feeling refreshed and revitalised, its like a good tonic for me.  We all needs times in our week when we have “me” time and exercise can be a great way to build that in. My one to one pilates sessions provide that for me and can provide that for you as well!
